Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions. We will add to the FAQs as and when we receive new queries.

Q. Can we use INREASE funding to construct a new building?
A. No, INCREASE funding cannot be used to either construct a new building or purchase an existing building

Q.

How much funding is available?
A. The Scottish Executive has allocated £5 Million from its Strategic Waste Fund for Community Waste projects until February 2008
Q. What is the timescale for spending the grant?
A. All projects must be completed by 28th February 2008
Q. Is there a limit to the number of projects an organisation can apply for funding?
A. No limit to the number of projects an organisation can apply for. The panel make the final decision on which projects will be funded
Q. Do we need to get match funding?
A. There is no prerequisite for match funding
Q. Can we get funding in advance?
A. No. A possible way round this is to work with partners, such as Local Authorities
Q. We are a Charity and are looking at a 3 year plan can we get funding for this?
A. Funding needs to be spent by 28th February 2008
Q. How long does the decision process take?
A. Approx. 10 weeks
Q. Can the 1st year be for setting up and 2nd year for implementation?
A. Yes, the fund is all about moving the sector on
Q. Can we get funding for a wormery?
A. Yes
Q. Can we get funding for composting bins for local community?
A. Yes, if this is not done already by your local authority
Q. Does the application form go to the local authority for checking?
A. No
Q. How often will the decision panel meet?
A. Every 8 weeks
Q. If our grant application is unsuccessful can we re-apply?
A. Yes you can, we don’t want to say no - just point you in the right direction
Q. Is the whole £5M available for projects?
A. Yes, Momenta are funded outwith the Grant fund
Q. Can we use the money for expansion?
A. Yes
Q. If we only carry out a small project, do we need to complete a report?
A. Yes there is a 2 page report which you need to complete at the end of the project and your Development Officer can help you to write it.
Q. If we do not reach our targets will we still receive funding?
A. Yes, but we would look at individual projects on a case-by-case basis.
Q. Are information and education projects eligible?
A. Yes
Q. Do we need to provide written quotations or estimates for items in the breakdown of costs?
A. Yes
Q. Can we include on-going running costs in our application?
A. Yes, provided the costs are directly associated with your project
Q. Can we include a project management fee in our application?
A. Yes
Q. What are the decision categories?
A.

The outcomes of the panel will fall into one of the following six categories: YES, YES WITH CONDITIONS, PART FUND, DEFER 1 (decision deferred until further information is required), DEFER 2 (decision deferred until further information is presented at next panel meeting) and NO.
